Valedictions
I am only too well aware of the paucity of the tributes that I am able to print for the members who have passed away. Part of the problem is the loss of our two excellent Regimental Offices in Customs House and The Wardrobe and the collective knowledge that was held by those who worked there. Ian Spence, in his time as the Regimental Secretary, did institute an process whereby members were encourage to write their own Valediction, so that somewhere there was a baseline to write something pertinent on a member's passing. Sadly those details seemed to have been lost.
BATTLE OF IMJIN RIVER 22ND - 25TH APRIL 1951
Today, 69 years ago, saw the first day’s action on what was to become known as “The Battle of the Imjin River” or “The Battle of Gloster Hill”. During the next few days, history has written about some of the greatest acts of unit gallantry and outstanding performance of duty, made by the men of a small British Army Brigade in South Korea.
The Funeral of LIEUTENANT COLONEL RONALD ERNEST COLEMAN JP
Beverley Hilton, the younger daughter of Ron and Eileen Coleman, has recently confirmed that the funeral of Ronald Ernest Coleman will take place at 2.30 pm on Thursday 21st May.
Those wishing to participate through a ‘video stream’ are most welcome to contact Beverley Hilton direct (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - note there is an underscore between Beverley and Hilton).
Nearer the time Beverley will send out details to those who have expressed an interest on how to log in to the service. In the meantime both Beverley and her mother Eileen are extremely grateful for the ‘lovely messages of support’ that have been received.
Update Cenotaph 2020
For those of you who have registered an interest in participating in the 2020 Cenotaph Parade I have received the following information to a question I put before the RBL team regarding the security screening process.
Cenotaph 2020. At the time of going to print, the Attendance has been reduced to a national figure of 2,000, with each Regimental Association being granted 8 marching places. With 30 members having volunteered it was inevitable there were going to be disappointments. Those eight have been notified and their registration with the Royal British Legion has been completed.
