The Salisbury Branch is still in being although numbers are falling off mainly due to age and members falling off their perch.
At the AGM on 01 February John Venus stood down as Chairman after many years of service, so, a big thank you to him for all he has done for us.
Bill Sherman has now been appointed our Branch Chairman (so welcome aboard Bill) with Brian Burton remaining as Treasurer and I am still Branch Secretary. We have no other Committee members.
In April we had to cancel our quiz night due to indisposition of several of our members, we hope that 2019 will bring us better luck.
We had our Annual Plough -Mans Supper towards the end of July with around 75 members and guests attending. The Shrewton Silver Band were again in attendance and many thanks to all our helpers who made the evening go with a swing.
We had a sad occasion at the end of August with the loss of Ken Burgess to cancer. Ken was one of the long serving members of the Branch and we will miss him and his sense of humour. Ken did his National Service with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and was very proud of his cap badge. He was one of the best and will be sorely missed. He had a good send off with many friends and family attending his funeral at the Salisbury Crematorium, and afterwards, at the Cycling Club. Our thoughts. Our thoughts are with Barbara and the family. (RIP Ken we all love you).
Our final event of the year was our Branch Dinner/Dance which was held at the Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club on Saturday 10 November.
The 2018 Slashers golf season has been a resounding success, the season started at Ombersley golf club in March and saw meetings through the summer culminating in the final game of the season at Forest hills GC.
Every month we play at a different venue for the artillery shell for the best Stableford score , With a special trophy for the most golf played everyone tries to avoid.
To All members, Branches and the Regimental Association Family
We have managed to get through the past twelve months without the support of the former Regimental Headquarter offices at Customs House and the Wardrobe or their hard working staff, ensuring that at branch level life has managed to continue without too much disruption. That we have done so bears testament to the endeavours of the branch officers throughout the association.
2018 was another busy year for the Farmers Boys (DERR) Golf Society with 8 meetings, plus our inaugural overseas tour to the Islantilla golf resortin Spain. Huge thanks to Toby North for organising this fantastically enjoyable trip - 3 nights half board, unlimited golf, lots of laughs and one or two extras issued by the GOS (Golf Orderly Sergeant). The trip was such a success that 12 Farmers Boys are going again in March 2019.
The attached letter covers behaviour before, during and after the Army vs Navy rugby match. It outlines the disappointment of the last year, how out of line the behaviour is with civilian matches and how important it is to get the message out to the wider Regimental family. It has been deliberately sent out early to allow it to be sent out along the Regimental network and to allow those attending to set expectations accordingly.
Please ensure that it is passed on and reinforced. It is a great day, a brilliant reunion and a wonderful sporting event which attracts national-level interest. We must protect and preserve such an iconic event by reinforcing the need to behave and uphold the law.
