14784824 WO 1 D. K. CARPENTER Sadly we have just received the news from Mrs Diane Halsey, that her father David K Carpenter has passed away at the Age of 96.

As 14784824 Private D K Carpenter joined the Wiltshire Regiment in 1944 rising to the rank of WO1. In 1959 on the amalgamation with the Royal Berkshire Regiment

WO1 D K Carpenter continued to serve with DERR and finally retired from the Army in 1979.

Apart from serving with the 1st battalions of the Wiltshire Regiment and DERR his service included a tour of duty with the Kings Africa Rifles.

After having served for 34 years in the Regular Army he went on to become a Yeoman of the Guard at the Tower of London.

Those of DERR who served in the UN tour of Cyprus in 1985 – 1986 may recall him visiting the Battalion. The image below shows him in his uniform as a Yeoman of the Guard alongside WO 1 Rod Hicks on his last day as RSM prior to his being commissioned.

A portrait of D K Carpenter in his ceremonial uniform as a Yeoman of the Guard hangs in the Regimental Museum in Salisbury. The Association send it commiseration to Mrs Diane Halsey and her family.
