LIEUTENANT COLONEL R A F JARMAN Many will wish to be aware that Lieutenant Colonel Robert Jarman has died recently, aged 88. On deployment to Korea with 1st Battalion The Gloucestershire Regiment, Bob Jarman was a JNCO within the mortar platoon. His return to the UK for officer selection coincided with Spring 1951. After returning to Korea on board the SS Empire Fowey, he served the remainder of the tour with the mortar platoon.

Bob Jarman was commissioned in to The Gloucestershire Regiment in 1953 and subsequent appointments included Mortar Platoon Commander and Adjutant 5 th Glosters (61-63) after which he attended the Technical Staff Course at the Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham. Subsequently he was posted to Far East Land Forces (FARELF) (66-67) and on return to 1st Glosters he commanded HQ Coy whilst in Berlin. Staff appointments at the Ordnance Board, the Ministry of Defence and also as Training Major 1 WESSEX followed before gaining a Grade One Staff appointment at the Royal Radar Establishment. He subsequently held further technical staff appointments and towards the end of his regular service worked in the Army Department of the Ministry of Defence within Defence Sales. He left the Army in 1982.

Throughout his service Bob Jarman was a great supporter of the Regiment and this carried on after retirement. His support to the London and Stroud Branches of the Regimental Association is noteworthy. Colonel Roy Giles recently wrote about Bob Jarman’s highly developed sense of humour and one particular Mess night when the Colonel-in-Chief was highly entertained by an after dinner performance by Bob, Jim Allison and Arnold Crush. In recent days Mrs Yvonne Jarman, Robert’s wife, and his brother the Reverend Kit Jarman have communicated with Lieutenant Colonel Rob Dixon and this office. Further details concerning the funeral are not known. However, those wishing to contact the family are welcome to contact this office, via the above e-mail address, for necessary detail.
