This was expected and a relief to his suffering”. Colonel Desmond Redding was commissioned into the Royal Berkshire Regiment serving and then serving in 1 DERR. He went on to command 2 WESSEX. Colonel Desmond Reading was the Company Commander of A Coy 1 DERR in Minden when I joined the Battalion. He was the most amazing example of a professional to us young aspiring leaders and that fact is borne out by the number of young soldiers who went on to have fulfilling Careers inside and outside of the Regiment. He was mentor to so many.

My personal condolences go out to everyone effected by this news, none more of course than his immediate family.

Desmond was the outstanding mechanised warfare commander that the Regiment ever had , he inspired all under his command and asa result no fewer than ten JNCO,s of his command went on to WO1 status most of whom became RSM of the1st Bn many others had successful careers because of his influence in forming the back bone to their career attitude , a true gentleman much respected across the Regiment a great loss our thoughts are with his family whose loss is as great as ours RIP god bless.
