Mr Spurway's family will be holding a small private funeral to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations to the Northern Ireland Marie Curie. If anyone would like to share photos and stories of Mark with his family, they are asked to please message his children at:
He met his wife in N. Ireland and they married in 1987, going on to have 3 children, Shauna, Michael and Joseph, and more recently a grandson, Harry. In 2013 Mark and his wife moved to Canada where they took every opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. They returned recently to live in Belfast because of Mark's health.
Mr Spurway joined the Army at age 16 years and served with 1 DERR in the UK, including N, Ireland, and with BAOR in W. Germany and in Hong Kong. His daughter Shauna remarked that his time in the Army was fundamental to his drive to work hard and to see the world.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Sam, our Mums amazing husband of 38 years. He passed away on Tuesday 24th of June two and a half years after being diagnosed with cancer, surrounded by his family. He is greatly missed every day."
Colonel Terry Daly has passed on the following announcement found on Facebook regarding ex LCpl Mark (Sam) Spurway.
