Branch New 2014
Another Day Another Dollar - Here we are again the year has flown past.
The AGM in January saw the re-election of the Committee though, with great sadness in June, the Secretary, Richard Dunscombe had to stand down to look after his wife who later died. Her funeral in Salisbury was well supported by both the Branch and Civil Service Association. This necessitated a re-shuffle and Bob Gittings moved up to take over the role with Brian Burton becoming Treasurer.
The Branch were strongly represented at the Devizes Reunion with all four Standards on parade. It was all hands to the pump for the Salisbury Reunion in support of Lieutenant Colonel John Venus MBE who laid on a superb Dinner Dane at South Wilts Golf Club and was MC for the Drumhead Service in the Wardrobe Garden the following day. In the absence of the Association Padre, the Venerable Alan Jeans, Canon David Linaker, a great supporter of the regiment, led the service.
The Branch holds three additional events to the regular Branch Meetings each year; in the Spring there was the fish & chip and Quiz evening held in the Regimental Room at the Wardrobe in April organised by Major Nigel Walker and where the Ken Burgess team is to be congratulated for a third straight victory. In the Summer the Ploughman's supper held in the Wardrobe Garden in July gathered 60 people to eat and listen to the Shrewton Silver Band under its Director ex-DERR Bandmaster Mike Dunford. Thanks go to the ladies Elsie, Di, Julie and Leslie for the food and Rita and Jill for running the raffle. In the Winter, the annual Dinner & Dance held at South Wilts GC in November was a resounding success. A Disco played
music in the absence of the regular group and was well received.
The Branch seeks new members and reaches out to any in the Salisbury area to get in touch. We have four meetings a year: in January, April, July and November as well as the seasonal hardy perennials mentioned above
A Happy and Successful 2015 to all Association Members.
