The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum - The Wardrobe

Help Us Bring History to Life at The Wardrobe

The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum, based at The Wardrobe in Salisbury, tells the remarkable story of our antecedent regiments—stretching over 250 years from their formation to the present-day Rifles. While the collection remains rich in history, the museum itself has seen little development in over four decades. Visitor expectations have evolved, and so have the tools we use to share stories.

That’s why we’ve launching Update25, a major redevelopment project to transform the museum experience. This once-in-a-generation investment will modernise displays, create more engaging storytelling, and make better use of interactive technologies. The new Rifles Museum in Winchester will only cover the regiment’s story from 2007 onward. The Wardrobe will remain the only place where our full regimental history is preserved and shared.

But we need your help to make it happen.

How You Can Support:
Volunteer as a museum host or to help at our summer events
Attend our events—and bring friends and family
Donate to the museum through our charity fund or join our Supporters Wall

About the Role

We are and want to increase further our connection and relevance to our communities, and develop new events, activities and partners.

Success will come from applying insights from your commercial, marketing, fundraising and/or educational backgrounds, to generate greater levels of visitors (local, national and international) to our museum and from engaging them by telling our stories in a compelling and accessible way.

Our major museum refurbishment will be complete in September 2025. The scheme was successfully awarded National Lottery Heritage Funding, including post refurbishment community engagement support. We want to build on this opportunity and momentum, along with our world class local surroundings next to Salisbury Cathedral, the magnificent 13th Century listed building itself (The Wardrobe), and our Regiment’s rich human history and achievements. We also have a stunning garden and restaurant to show case further what great assets we possess on site, all of which add to our visitors’ enjoyment.  Visit our website at www.thewardrobe.org.uk
